The Persuasions Sing The Beatles [Hybrid SACD]

The Persuasions - The Persuasions Sing The Beatles [Hybrid SACD]

For more than four decades the Brooklyn-born Persuasions kept a cappella singing alive when few other groups were doing it. They never limited themselves to one style, and they never needed a band. On this tribute album a four-man lineup reworks fourteen Beatles songs using nothing but their voices: a rumbling bass, close harmony and lead vocals full of gospel and soul.

Producer David Chesky recorded the album in 2001 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Manhattan instead of a conventional studio. The singers stood around a single microphone, which captures both their blend and the natural reverb of the church. The songs include 'Eight Days a Week', 'Oh! Darling', 'Come Together', 'Love Me Do', 'Yesterday' and 'Ob La Di, Ob La Da', followed by a reading of 'Imagine' and a closing 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (Reprise)'.

This hybrid SACD reissue belongs to Chesky's Original Masters series. It plays on any standard CD player and offers higher-resolution sound on SACD-capable systems. This version has the full 14-track running order.
