The 7 Generation Principle [CD]

Uri Caine – The 7 Generation Principle [CD]

Pianist and composer Uri Caine builds a strict, almost ritual structure for The 7 Generation Principle: 49 miniatures (seven times seven), each about 77 seconds long, flowing seamlessly into one another. Top contemporary soloists and eight voices from the EXAUDI Vocal Ensemble blur the line between score and improvisation in one continuous, hypnotic work.

The piece takes its name from the Indigenous North American principle of weighing every decision against its impact seven generations ahead. A single CD on Winter & Winter, Caine's longtime home.

Genre: Avant-Garde, Contemporary Classical, Improvisation, Jazz.
