Niclas Rydh – Spacening [CD]

After a life spent in the service of music, bass trombonist Niclas Rydh steps into the spotlight with his debut album as a leader. He wrote the compositions with his rhythm section in mind: bassist Kjell Jansson and drummer Anders Kjellberg, two players he has admired since the early 1990s.

The tunes are built around their sound and groove, giving the music a rare sense of interplay, while the harmonies draw on classical modernism, Stravinsky and Alban Berg, in a fascinating balance of tradition and innovation. On CD from the Swedish label Prophone.

Genre: Jazz, Modern Jazz.
