Herbert von Karajan - Schoenberg, Berg, Webern (Original Source) [180 Gram 4LP Box Set]

In 1973 and 1974, Herbert von Karajan took the Berliner Philharmoniker into the dense sound worlds of Arnold Schoenberg, Alban Berg and Anton Webern, marking a rare moment when he turned his attention from the Austro-German canon toward modernism's most uncompromising figures, the Second Viennese School. The results were issued at the time in a striking 4LP set with a sleeve conceived by Holger Matthies, one of Germany's most inventive graphic designers.

Part of Deutsche Grammophon's Original Source series, the complete recordings have been newly mixed and cut 100% analog (AAA) from the original four- and eight-track tapes by Rainer Maillard and Sidney C. Meyer at Emil Berliner Studios, for greater clarity and detail with less background noise, distortion and compression. Pressed on 180-gram vinyl by Optimal, the numbered edition presents each recording in a deluxe gatefold with original artwork, additional photos and facsimiles of the recording logs and tape boxes, housed in a rigid slipcase.
