Quintette Syntonia – Pierné & Dupont: Œuvres pour Piano et Quatuor à Cordes [CD]
In 1911, terminally ill with tuberculosis, Gabriel Dupont completed his Poème for piano and string quartet, dedicated to his teacher Widor and steeped in the tradition of César Franck. In 1917 Gabriel Pierné answered with his own Piano Quintet, dedicated to Fauré and written in the depths of the war.
Syntonia, France's only standing piano quintet, has championed these forgotten gems since 1999 and makes a strong case for both. Single CD on Alpha Classics.
Genre: Chamber Music, Classical.
