Per Aspera Ad Astra [CD]

Zhenni Li-Cohen – Per Aspera Ad Astra [CD]

Pianist Zhenni Li-Cohen joins Marin Alsop and the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra for the sweeping music of Sergei Bortkiewicz. The headline is the world-premiere commercial recording of his Rhapsody, Op. 45, written for one-armed pianist Paul Wittgenstein and lost after the composer fled Nazi Berlin in 1933. Beside it is his Piano Concerto No. 3, 'Per aspera ad astra', a single grand arc in the tradition of Rachmaninoff and Medtner, ending in pealing church bells.

Li-Cohen's Pentatone debut, on a single CD.

Genre: Classical, Orchestral, Piano, Romantic.
