rei harakami - opa*q [2LP]
Rei Harakami's second album, opa*q, has been remastered by Yoshinori Sunahara and released here as his first ever 2LP vinyl edition. Originally released in 1999, a year after his groundbreaking debut album unrest, opa*q was re-released in 2005 as a special edition with two bonus tracks and is considered a masterpiece of the Japanese techno scene. It includes the remixes "on" by Ian O'Brien and "double flat" by Max404, which drew considerable attention from club listeners at the time. The album retains its freshness today, standing as a representative work of Harakami's bouncy, toy-like sound, and includes liner notes by Akito Katayose of GREAT3, as on the reissued CD.
opa*q opens with the fresh yet surprisingly sophisticated "glimglim" and closes with the meticulously constructed, exhilarating beat of "schw schw." With delicate melodies and harmonies, unpredictable rhythms, and unsettling soundscapes, it stands as one of the finest albums Rei Harakami left behind — now available on vinyl for the first time in this newly remastered edition.
