Obsidiana takes its name from obsidian, the dark volcanic glass long associated with both sharp-edged tools and ritual divination. For Lorena Quintanilla—the Mexico-based artist behind J. Zunz and member of Lorelle Meets The Obsolete—the material became the album's magnetic center. “Once I chose the title, everything I read, saw, listened to, and thought about began to interconnect,” she explains. “Obsidian became like a magnetic field.”

Driven by both the ghost and the heart of the machine, Obsidiana opens a portal where forbidding drone, ethereal ambience and insistent repetition intertwine. The eerie, almost Radiophonic atmosphere of “Imago” sits beside the dancefloor-adjacent pulse of “Osiris,” while the lyrics ground the record's abstract textures in personal reflection and the contradictions of contemporary life.

The result is sharp yet amorphous, spectral yet physical: a record built around intention, catharsis and transformation. As Quintanilla puts it, each song works “to conjure, to exorcise, to strip away fear, to rediscover myself, to heal inherited sadness, and to reclaim the night that was taken from us.”
