Morton Feldman Plays Feldman [CD]

Morton Feldman – Morton Feldman Plays Feldman [CD]

A rare chance to hear Morton Feldman interpret his own music, from a 1978 concert in Cologne recorded by Deutschlandfunk. Composer Walter Zimmermann invited Feldman and his trusted interpreters Eberhard Blum and Jan Williams to present the program as part of his Beginner Studio series.

This is likely the earliest recording of Why Patterns?, written the same year: an uncoordinated score where the players start together, drift independently through repeating patterns and reconvene at the end, creating a glacial, free-floating calm. Feldman also plays his solo piano pieces Extensions 3 and Intermission 5 (both 1952). Includes liner notes by Zimmermann and Feldman.

Genre: Avant-Garde, Classical, Contemporary Classical, Piano.
