Academic Choir of Nicolaus Copernicus – Kuyavian Folk Songs [CD]
A journey into the musical heritage of Kuyavia, one of Poland's richest regions of folk song. Drawing on melodies and texts collected by the great ethnographer Oskar Kolberg, these contemporary choral arrangements by Piotr Becinski keep the simplicity and emotional character of the originals, moving between a cappella singing and versions with string orchestra.
Performed by academic and youth choirs from Toruń and Bydgoszcz with the Arte Con Brio String Orchestra. Highlights include "Jedzie Jasio od Torunia", a melody Chopin later quoted in his Fantasy on Polish Airs, Op. 13. CD on DUX.
Genre: Choral, Classical.
