Yebba - Jean [LP]
Five years after Dawn, Yebba returns with an album that swaps out the grand statements and instead trades more in emotional honesty. The record is named after her late grandmother and unfolds through gospel, folk, blues and country influences that allow her remarkable voice to take centre stage without unnecessary embellishment. Tracks like 'Yellow Eyes' showcase her gift for a very personal brand of storytelling, while moments of warmth and humour balance the album's heavier themes of grief, faith and healing. Jean is always understated and feels like a natural evolution of Yebba's songwriting that will keep you coming back for more.
