Guitar Red - Hard Times [LP]
Hard Times is a singular piece of 1976 Chicago soul. Paul Johnson, recording as Guitar Red, played almost everything himself, from guitar and vocals to synthesizer and drum machine, and the result blends funk, disco, blues and early electronic soul into something raw, lo-fi and strangely futuristic. Soulful ballads like 'Share Your Love' sit beside offbeat grooves such as 'Disco From Outer Space'.
Reissued on 12-inch black vinyl LP by Funky Delicacies, the Tuff City imprint devoted to rare soul, funk and blues.
