Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex aired in 2002 on the SKY Perfect Choice network for two seasons and 52 episodes. Directed by Kenji Kamiyama and produced by Production I.G with music by Yoko Kanno, the series was a huge hit both in Japan and overseas, topping cable television ratings across the United States.

Kanno's score paints a picture of a cyberpunk near future, fusing digital electronica with echoes of eastern European folk songs, jazz, and rock. Vocals blend Russian, English, and Italian to depict a stateless, complex future society. Previously released across five CD albums, this marks the soundtrack's first time available on vinyl.
