Country Icons: From Hillbilly to Honky Tonk [LP]

Various Artists - Country Icons: From Hillbilly to Honky Tonk [LP]

Country Icons: From Hillbilly to Honky Tonk traces country music from rural mountain roots to postwar honky-tonk across fourteen landmark recordings. Jimmie Rodgers and The Carter Family lay the foundations, Bob Wills and Bill Monroe bring swing and speed, and Hank Williams, Webb Pierce and Johnny Cash add raw songwriting grit. Kitty Wells, the first female solo artist to top the country charts, and Patsy Cline with 'Crazy' round out the lineup.

Compiled by Acrobat and pressed on black vinyl as a single LP, a fine primer on the voices that shaped American roots music.
