Biber: Rosary Sonatas [2CD]

Rachel Podger – Biber: Rosary Sonatas [2CD]

Heinrich Biber's Rosary Sonatas, also known as the Mystery Sonatas, form a linked meditation on the life of Christ and the Virgin, and stand among the most extraordinary violin music of the Baroque. Uniquely, they call for many different scordatura tunings, each retuning of the strings creating a new sound world for each scene.

Baroque violinist Rachel Podger, one of the finest interpreters of this repertoire, plays the cycle across two CDs on Channel Classics, her longtime label.

Genre: Classical.
