With producer Steve Kravac at helm, the album leans into skate-pop punk more than any previous album. A polarizing release initially (some critics wrote about wanting more horns and "major label" sellouts). Punknews called the album "underrated." Though Canada's Chart Attack & Germanys' Rock Hard & Ox-Fanzine would disagree. As would UK's Downed in Sound giving the album a perfect 10/10 and writing "every song is so darn catchy" 25 years later, Borders and Boundaries is now is the band's best selling and most popular release.
