"From Daggerboard and Erik Jekabson come The Axes. A series of four concerts each given on the day of their event. On June 21 2024 at The Hillside Club in Berkeley the first concert was performed and this recording is that performance and the rehearsal for it. The pieces were written for the celebratory nature of the summer solstice. Eight original works that begin with minimalist themes then develop in wondrous directions as life itself does. The orchestra for this performance is comprised of many artists in their own right. Conducted by esteemed conductor and violist Charith Premawardhana with Mads Tolling on lead violin, Ben Davis on cello, Paul Hanson on bassoon, Dan Feiszli on bass, Jon Arkin on drums, Harvey Wainapel on sax, Jeff Cressman on trombone, and Erik Jekabson on Trumpet."
