On August 3rd 1974 Jay Mitchell became the 1st Entertainer of the Year in the Bahamas. Mitchell was voted to this position at the First Annual Music Maker of the Year Awards Presentation held in Freeport Grand Bahama.

On July 5th 1975 Mitchell was voted Entertainer of the Year for a second term. On this date he also walked away with the Best Calypso of the Year Trophy plus a Gold Record (donated by Atlantic Corporation) for the Best Album of the Year 1974/1975 for "Ya Mama Again".
