Originally released in 2018 'Filoxiny' is Skinshape's breakthrough album racking up millions of streams and gaining as many fans. A firm favourite with BBC 6 Music, early support came from Lauren Laverne, Tom Ravenscroft, Gilles Peterson, Deb Grant, Huw Stephens and Huey Morgan. Skinshape is the project of British musician William Dorey. The sound has roots in many genres but in particular 1960s-0s Funk, Soul, Reggae, Psychedelic Rock, Afrobeat and Folk. Dorey is a former member of the band Palace, has played Glastonbury, BBC Maida Vale and Shepherd's Bush Empire to name a few. 'I Didn't Know' has streamed over 50 million times. About Filoxiny from Dorey himself: ''Filoxiny is a mish mash of a huge variety of styles and sounds. I've tried to push myself in the writing of the music as well as the recording process. The focus on this album was to make songs with a strong cinematic element using string and horn parts making up significant portions. I wanted to do this whilst still retaining a spacey 'psych' feel. As a result there are not many songs with lyrics, instead lots of mellow cinematic grooves that I feel are almost the soundtrack to an imaginary film.
