Original soundtrack for "Departures" (released in September 2008, starring Masahiro Motoki, Ryoko Hirosue, and others), directed by Yojiro Takita. The main character is a cellist and former orchestra member, so the sound of the cello is used effectively throughout the film. The melody that tightens the scene and adds a lyrical excitement is unique to Joe Hisaishi. This is a CD where you can enjoy the sound of the cello.
