After countless sessions with leading players including Terumasa Hino, and making his name in the pop field as a core member of Tatsuro Yamashita's band, the legendary saxophonist Hidefumi Toki now releases a brand-new album from the new label Days of Delight. True to the label's philosophy of "learning from the past to create the new," the album features a stellar lineup: today's top players such as Hikari Ichihara (tp, flh) and Mayuko Katakura (p), alongside veterans Yasuhiko Hachi Sato (b) and Shingo Okudaira (ds). Together, they deliver not a nostalgic throwback, but a vivid portrait of "Hidefumi Toki in 2018." With bassist/producer Nori Shiota-who has worked with Bei Xu, Karen Aoki, Jazzin' R&B and many others-serving as recording engineer, the album brilliantly reconstructs the miraculous sound of early 1970s Japanese jazz.
