The massive endeavor is stacked top to bottom with songs that were originally considered too country for country. “I had the freedom to go into the studio and record whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. Nobody was breathing down my neck telling me I had to get a hit or get a playlist or whatever, they just said go create an album,” Cody shared with Forbes. “I make music that I believe in from my heart and soul” he told CMT. Prior to the album launch, Johnson shared a preview of the new songs with music industry friends and partners where he also announced that his very first holiday album, A Cody Johnson Christmas, will be available everywhere November 19. During the event Warner Nashville’s Ben Kline (EVP/GM Warner Nashville) described the album as, “An artistic statement, it’s a personal statement, and we think it’s also going to take Cody to the next level.”
