The Beach Boys
Wild Honey (Stereo Edition) [Vinyl]
Wild Honey (Stereo Edition) [Vinyl]
One of the odder pop albums of the late '60s, WILD HONEY found the Beach Boys emerging out into the sun again after the dark introspection and baroque, anti-rock orchestrations of the 1966 classic PET SOUNDS and its follow up, SMILEY SMILE. They emerged into a world that had forever changed and that no longer really needed them, which is perhaps why they felt free, on WILD HONEY, to ditch both their sun-and-surf roots and their more recent studio explorations and turn out a goofy, good-humored, faux-R&B album. Alongside the spirited "Darlin'" and a bubblegummy cover of Stevie Wonder's "I Was Made To Love Her," WILD HONEY includes such strange and wonderful moments as "I'd Love Just Once To See You," a breezy, seemingly innocuous acoustic number that leads up to the memorable plea, "I'd love just once to see you in the nude."
