Ever since the late 1950s bossa nova revolution, Brazil's influence on French music has been undeniable. Pierre Barouh, Georges Moustaki, and a vast array of lesser known artists made Musica Popular Brasileira an axis of promotion for a cool, modern, and mixed Brazilian lifestyle. Tchic Tchic: French Bossa Nova 1963-1974 captures that transformation as the genre traveled through the United States and took root in France.

Born in Rio between 1956 and 1961, bossa nova was carried abroad by American jazzmen like Dizzy Gillespie and Charlie Byrd. Following Brazil's 1964 military coup, musicians including Tom Jobim, Sergio Mendes, and Joao Gilberto relocated to the United States, where Gilberto's collaboration with Stan Getz and Astrud Gilberto produced the landmark Getz/Gilberto album. Bossa nova arrived in Paris through the classic guitar-and-voice tradition, finding a receptive home in a city already steeped in jazz.

This double-LP edition includes a printed undersleeve with liner notes in French and English, plus a download code.
