“Brooklyn Bossa” is an idea I was working on that I composed & recorded starting with a layered Bossa Nova beat an upright bass part a unison then harmonic background vocalese pad arrangement grand piano percussion and a rhythm guitar part (all played on keys) but what I really needed was a REAL Brasilian guitarist! When I met the amazing Ricardo Barros in Sao Paulo at a private jam session I knew we had to connect and there was definitely musical magic! He recorded some takes for my track and I did a piano arrangement to his song (his compositions are INSANE btw). This is a special edition version that was created for Soul In The Horn's 10th anniversary 3LP compilation. B-side “T.G.I.F. (Thank God It’s Funky)” is by far the funkiest track I've ever created to date! I just got hit with inspiration all of a sudden and I wasn't listening to anything prior to this. Of course funk influences flavored this from legends like James Brown George Duke and some Jimmy Smith for the organ grinding I did. I can't think of a better start of Summer/BBQ weekend/Soul Train line old school vibe than "Thank God It's Funky!"...a twist on the day it was released as everyone gets ready for the weekend to unwind from the work week and let loose!
