Joseph Jarman & Famoudou Don Moye - Black Paladins [LP Black Smoke Vinyl]

From the original 1979 Black Saint Label vinyl masters of the under-appreciated avant-jazz masterpiece from members of The Art Ensemble of Chicago. This first of its kind American reissue of the Joseph Jarman & Famoudou Don Moye experimental jazz release from the Dead Currencies Label is hand-packaged & numbered featuring updated album art special inserts a silver metallic screen-printed lower spine wrap and "Black Smoke" color swirl vinyl LP. Allmusic called it “the Jarman/Moye duo's most successful effort and one of the most rewarding projects either was involved with outside of the Art Ensemble. A delicious recording. 4-1/2 stars.” Inspired by the murder of black poet Henry Dumas in a Harlem Subway station by an NYC transit cop a decade earlier Joseph Jarman and Art Ensemble bandmate Don Moye along with great South African bassist Johnny Dyani entered Barigozzi studio in Italy in December 1979. With Dumas’ poem “Saba: Black Paladins” which Jarman recites on the title track as its centerpiece this great work still resounds today with the many paralels that still plague America in its 250th year. Tracing a deep dense sound path; from ancient Africa through the rural American south to those more modern 1970’s urban landscapes after forty-five years Black Paladins still resounds with the same grace power and sense of urgency. Includes the original liner notes from the 1980 Black Saint (Italy) release. to 200. No represses.
