No(w) Beauty - (Un)seen [LP]
Named French Group of the Year 2023 by Jazz News and Jazz Magazine, No(w) Beauty is a leaderless French-American quartet: Kansas City-born trumpeter Hermon Mehari with pianist Enzo Carniel, bassist Damien Varaillon and drummer Stéphane Adsuar. Their second album, (Un)seen, uses birds in flight as a metaphor for inner journeys, folding electronics and a string quartet into a mix of modern jazz, classical writing and hip-hop, with American folk singer Sam Amidon as guest voice.
Remarkably, the first sessions were lost to a technical accident and the whole album had to be recorded again. Eleven tracks, released by French label Homs and pressed on black vinyl as a single LP.
