Bill Monroe - The Father Of Bluegrass 1940-58 [LP]

Bill Monroe didn't just play bluegrass, he invented and named it, building a fast, percussive acoustic sound from his Kentucky roots, his uncle Pendleton Vandiver's fiddling and the blues of Arnold Shultz. This collection follows him from his 1940 Bluebird sessions through the Columbia years with Lester Flatt and Earl Scruggs to his 1950s Decca work, with 'Mule Skinner Blues', 'Uncle Pen' and the original waltz version of 'Blue Moon of Kentucky'.

Sixteen tracks on a single black LP from Acrobat, an ideal primer on the high lonesome sound.
