The Early Modern Sound 1955-61 [LP]

Betty Carter - The Early Modern Sound 1955-61 [LP]

Betty Carter changed jazz singing for good, using her voice like a horn with daring scat lines, sudden harmonic turns and huge dynamic range. This collection follows her early modern period from dates for Epic, Peacock and Forum to her celebrated 1961 ABC-Paramount duets with Ray Charles, including 'Baby, It's Cold Outside' and 'Takes Two to Tango', complete with its famous tape-splice error.

Reinvented standards like 'Let's Fall in Love' and 'Stormy Weather' sit beside her original 'I Can't Help It'. Compiled on a single LP by Acrobat.
