Tamazgha [CD]

Naamu feat. Aziz Ozouss - Tamazgha [CD]

Following the release of their debut album Naamu (2023), the band led by bassist and composer Teun Creemers is embarking on an exciting new chapter. Building on previous collaborations with West African musicians such as Kankou Kouyate and Harouna Samake, Naamu now turns its focus towards Morocco through a new partnership with Aziz Ozouss, a Moroccan artist deeply rooted in Amazigh musical traditions. The musicians immersed themselves in traditional music, shared recordings and inspirations with one another, and gradually incorporated these influences into their own musical language. This process of listening, studying, playing and exchanging ideas became an essential part of the development of the album. At the heart of this collaboration is Aziz Ozouss, whose musical background provides a direct connection to the traditions that inspired the project. Drawing on his knowledge of styles such as Rwaiss and Isemgan, as well as his command of traditional instruments including the ribab and lotar, Ozouss brings a musical vocabulary shaped by the Amazigh culture of southern Morocco. Rather than treating these traditions as an added color, the band allowed them to influence the compositions, rhythms, melodies and overall approach to making music.
