Zenaida Pally – Operatic Recital [CD]

With her velvety tone, wide range and compelling stage presence, Zenaida Pally (1919-1997) was one of the finest Romanian mezzo-sopranos of her generation. This album gathers her rare archival recordings, made in Prague and Bucharest between 1953 and 1958, in one place for the first time.

The repertoire runs from Handel's Xerxes and Gluck's Orfeo through Mignon, Charlotte, Dalila and Carmen to her electrifying Verdi as Azucena and Amneris, capped by the Act IV trial scene from Aida with tenor Garbis Zobian. Newly remastered, on CD from Supraphon.

Genre: Classical, Opera.
