Nubes [CD]

Louhivuori / Lønning / Myhr - Nubes [CD]

The Finnish-Norwegian trio of Olavi Louhivuori, Eivind Lønning and Kim Myhr make their debut with Nubes, released by We Jazz Records. Recorded at We Jazz Festival in Helsinki in 2021, the album's organic flow moves beyond genre, building a sound world that gains intensity slowly and surely as the piece progresses. The music of the trio, documented when joining forces here for the first time, sounds unified, confident and searching, taking the listener to places far from the obvious. The Finnish drummer-composer Olavi Louhivuori's previous work appears on We Jazz Records with his quartet Superposition, and he's also the drummer of Linda Fredriksson Juniper, Ilmiliekki Quartet and Joona Toivanen Trio. He has won the Finnish jazz album of the year award (Emma) with Superposition, Oddarrang and as a member of Linda Fredriksson's Juniper. Previously he has also led his now-defunct band Oddarrang, worked solo, and collaborated with leading figures in improvised music and jazz, including Tomasz Stańko, Susanne Abbuehl, Anthony Braxton, Kenny Wheeler and Marilyn Crispell. Eivind Lønning is a Norwegian trumpetist known for his boundless approach to music and his instrument. He has collaborated with Jim O'Rourke, Christian Wallumrød, Joshua Redman, Dave Holland and Chick Corea, to name but a few. Norwegian guitarist and composer Kim Myhr has been touring internationally since the early 2000s and has released several records under his own name. As a composer he has made music for Australian Art Orchestra, Canadian string quartet Quatuor Bozzini, Kitchen Orchestra and Trondheim Jazz Orchestra of Norway, and has collaborated with Jenny Hval, Tony Buck of The Necks, Lasse Marhaug, and many others. RIYL: Oren Ambarchi, The Necks, Jon Hassell, Mogwai, Jim O'Rourke, Ikue Mori, Valentina Magaletti, Joona Toivanen Trio.
