50/50 - Memories Linger [Crystal Clear Vinyl]
50/50 were one of the best-kept secrets of the U.K.'s early synth-pop scene. Formed in the late '70s, the duo of multi-instrumentalist Richard Haines and vocalist David Cowles blended irresistible synth-forward pop with classic '60s British songwriting and thoughtful, imaginative lyrics. Working with synthesizers like the Korg Micro-Preset and Polysix, they recorded more than 150 songs between 1979 and 1985, but despite a publishing deal and encouragement from Genesis manager Tony Smith, they never got the promotion they deserved and nearly all of that music went unheard.
Memories Linger is the duo's first-ever studio album: 12 songs recorded between 1981 and 1984, nine of them previously unreleased, sequenced and produced exactly as the band intended. Highlights include "Who Needs Money," "Cry On My Shoulder," "Facing The Storm," the haunting title track and "Just Can't Win," recently featured on FX's The Shards.
The audio is newly mastered by multi-Grammy-nominated engineer John Baldwin, and the LP includes a 12-page booklet with unseen photos and liner notes by Charles Donovan. Pressed on limited-edition Crystal Clear vinyl at Optimal.
