Cappella Mariana – Jean Richafort: Motets [CD]

Jean Richafort, a successor to Josquin des Prez and one of the leading Franco-Flemish composers of the Renaissance, is reassessed here in light of new research. Cappella Mariana sings twelve motets following the liturgical year, from the Passion and Resurrection to Marian devotion, showing his blend of clear text-setting and rich counterpoint.

These pieces circulated widely in printed and manuscript sources across 16th-century Europe. Single CD on Musique en Wallonie, a valuable step in rediscovering a master of polyphony.

Genre: Choral, Classical, Renaissance.
