Beat Gems [Book]

Oli Freke - Beat Gems [Book]

Beat Gems explores more than six decades of electronic rhythm and the drum machines that shaped modern music. It follows their evolution from early rhythm boxes to the iconic programmable classics and today's beatmaking instruments, with legendary machines from Roland, Linn, Oberheim, Akai, Korg, Elektron and many others.

Richly illustrated and packed with historical insight and technical detail, it shows how these boxes helped define hip-hop, house, techno, electro and modern pop. Written by Oli Freke, with a foreword by Jeff Mills, and published by Bjooks.
