David Tudor - Anima Pepsi [Red LP]
David Tudor, the pianist who premiered Cage, Feldman and Stockhausen before turning to live electronics, composed these two works in 1970 for the Pepsi-Cola Pavilion at Expo '70 in Osaka, an E.A.T. project: a fog-shrouded dome with a mirrored hall and a 37-speaker system that could rotate sound around the room. Both were recorded on site. "Pepsibird" builds a vast, resonant space from recordings of brain waves, nerve firing, bats and EKG, its pulses sometimes close to birdsong. "Anima Pepsi" processes insect and animal recordings into fine, pointillist detail, foreshadowing Tudor's Rainforest pieces.
Red vinyl in an edition of 300, mixed to stereo, with a 20-page LP-size booklet including curator You Nakai's essay and new liner notes by Bradford Bailey.
