African Descendants / Black Is Black [7"]

Alton Ellis & Freedom Singers – African Descendants / Black Is Black [7"]

Alton Ellis, the Godfather of Rocksteady, goes deep and heavy on "African Descendants", a funky roots tune from 1973 cut for Studio One that has been almost impossible to find on a 45. It's Ellis at his most conscious, riding a thick, rolling rhythm.

The flip is the equally deep and funky "Black Is Black" by the Freedom Singers, another rare Studio One side. Two heavy, hard-to-find cuts paired on one 7" single, reissued by Soul Jazz Records for reggae selectors and collectors alike.
