What Is This? [LP]

Barry Michael Cooper - What Is This? [LP]

Before he wrote the screenplays for New Jack City and Sugar Hill, Barry Michael Cooper was utterly devoted to hip-hop and electro, and made records of his own. What Is This? gathers those rare, long-overlooked recordings into one anthology, from 'Rock It Out' and 'Let's Smurph' to the title track's radio mix and 'Barry's Routine', the work of an original voice who stepped away from the music business.

Compiled by Tuff City, the New York label devoted to unearthing old-school hip-hop and electro, and pressed on vinyl as a single LP. A real find for collectors of early electro and the forgotten corners of hip-hop history.
