The Conga Kings [180g LP]

The Conga Kings - The Conga Kings [180g LP]

The Conga Kings brought three of the greatest conga players together for one session: Cuban legends Candido Camero and Carlos "Patato" Valdes, and Puerto Rican virtuoso Giovanni Hidalgo. Chesky Records first released it in 2000.

It was recorded live in December 1999 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in New York, using Chesky's minimal audiophile setup, so you can place each player in the room. David Chesky co-produced with arranger Ray Santos. The music is traditional Afro-Cuban guaguancó and descarga, with tres, bass, bongo, flute and coro behind the drums and no piano or timbales, and includes pieces by Chano Pozo and Rafael Hernández.

This reissue is part of Chesky's Original Masters series, pressed on 180-gram vinyl using the one-step process, with new liner notes. The single LP holds six of the session's tracks.

Side One:

Tumbando Caña
Elube Chango
Guaguancó Pa' Las Tumbadoras

Side Two:

Avísale A Mi Contrario
Tuna Se Quemó
Descarga De Los Reyes
