November [CD]

Julius Berger – November [CD]

Cellist Julius Berger's November is a quiet, autumnal concept album built symmetrically around Schubert's beloved 'Arpeggione' Sonata. Around it sit works for cello and piano and for two cellos: Klaus Hinrich Stahmer's Bergwind, Sciarrino's nocturnal Ai limiti della notte, music by Morton Feldman and Mark Andre, and, looking further back, Hildegard of Bingen.

Closing with Stahmer's prayer of gratitude, it plays as one coherent meditation on sound, memory, nature and inwardness. A single CD on the German new-music label Wergo.

Genre: Chamber Music, Classical, Contemporary Classical.
