Domino is thrilled to announce that they've welcomed RÓIS, Dublin-based composer, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, to the label. Domino is re-releasing a remastered version of her critically acclaimed second album, MO LÉAN, an affecting resuscitation of the ardent rituals surrounding death in Ireland until the 1950s. Anchoring the album is a desire to recontextualize the celebration of death, drawing from elements synonymous with the country's DNA: traditional sean-nós tunes, the Irish language, and the omnipresent toll of the Angelus — carried into the modern day through RÓIS's unique approach to melody, production, and electrifying vocal performances.

The album explores the Irish pagan tradition of caoineadh, or keening, an integral part of the mourning process during which veiled women gathered around the body to sing and howl over several days of joyously unruly wakes. In the middle of the twentieth century these traditions were suppressed by the Catholic Church, and the impact of colonization further sealed their fate through the decimation of the Irish language and rural communities that kept them alive. Across MO LÉAN, RÓIS performs a resuscitation of these ardent rituals and throws open the doors that tried to hide away such vital ways of Irish life.
