Dimitri Mitropoulos – Mitropoulos Conducts Ernani [2CD]
Decca once planned a studio Ernani starring Mario Del Monaco, Anita Cerquetti and Ettore Bastianini, but it never came out. Happily, a 1957 performance in Florence preserved that very trio, joined by a bass of Boris Christoff's caliber.
Even more striking is the conductor, Dimitri Mitropoulos, whose reading of Verdi's opera was hailed by critics as revolutionary. The sound quality is excellent for a live recording of the period. A 2CD set from Urania Records.
Genre: Classical, Opera.
