Malibu [10 Year Anniversary Zoetrope Picture Disc 2LP]

Anderson Paak - Malibu [10 Year Anniversary Zoetrope Picture Disc 2LP]

Released in January 2016, Malibu was Anderson .Paak's arrival. After years in the underground and a star-making turn on Dr. Dre's Compton, he showed the world everything at once: virtuosic drummer, raspy-voiced soul singer and sharp-witted rapper.

The album is a sun-drenched trip down the Southern California coast, blending 1970s funk, church-raised gospel and gritty boom-bap, with production from 9th Wonder, Madlib, Kaytranada and Hi-Tek giving it a warm, analog feel. Beneath the groove of songs like "Am I Wrong" and "Come Down" is a deeply personal story: his mother's gambling addiction, his father's incarceration and his own brush with homelessness, told with resilience rather than heaviness and tied together by vintage surf-film samples. ScHoolboy Q, Rapsody, The Game, BJ the Chicago Kid and Talib Kweli all guest.

A decade on, Malibu stands as a modern classic and the launch pad for his Grammy-winning career.

This 10 year anniversary edition is a limited double LP on zoetrope picture disc vinyl in a gatefold jacket.
