Dangerous Summer - Golden Record [LP] (Pink Vinyl)

Released on August 6, 2013, Golden Record is the third studio album by The Dangerous Summer and stands as the most aggressive and urgent entry in their pre-hiatus discography. Following the atmospheric experimentation of War Paint, this album leans into a driving, heavy alternative rock sound. Largely self-produced with assistance from Paul Leavitt, the record features a revised lineup-including guitarist Matt Kennedy and drummer Ben Cato-that contributed to a thicker, "wall-of-sound" aesthetic, moving further away from their pop-punk roots into "anthem emo" territory.

The album is defined by it's raw intensity, mirroring the severe internal turmoil the band was facing during recording. Vocalist AJ Perdomo pushes his voice to the breaking point, delivering lyrics that toggle between biting self-loathing and nostalgic longing. The title itself references the Voyager Golden Records sent into space, symbolizing the band's desire to leave behind a permanent legacy. Tracks like the explosive opener "Catholic Girls" and the dark, driving "Knives" showcase this energy, blending soaring, arena-ready choruses with gritty, emotional desperation. Historically, Golden Record is viewed as the closing chapter of the band's "original era." Shortly after it's release, tensions between members culminated in a messy breakup and a four-year hiatus, making this album the band's "final goodbye" until their 2018 reunion. Because of this context, the record is often revered by fans as a raw, unfiltered document of a band burning out in real-time, pouring every last ounce of energy into the music before falling apart.
