Anna Domino - East And West + Singles & Demos [CD]

Anna Domino's 1984 debut East And West is a cult classic of '80s avant-pop. After settling in New York's Lower East Side in 1977, sharing the neighborhood with Brian Eno, Talking Heads and Laurie Anderson, she sent a self-recorded cassette to the Belgian label Les Disques du Crépuscule, which gave her studio time and the result was this record. Pitchfork later called it "The Velvet Underground & Nico of avant-pop."

Originally a five-track mini-album featuring the cult favorites "Land Of My Dreams" (an Aretha Franklin cover) and "Everyday, I Don't" (later covered by Clairo), the reissue pairs the original tracks with key singles from the period. Anna Domino has since become a touchstone of minimal pop and cold wave, cited by HTRK, Carla Dal Forno, Astrid Sonne, Horsegirl and Smerz.

The CD adds seven previously unreleased early-'80s demos digitized from Anna's original four-track tapes: six early versions of East And West songs and the never-released "Happy To Go." It also features new liner notes by Shaad D'Souza, plus newspaper clippings and photographs from Anna's personal collection with her own captions.
