Krijn Koetsveld – De Wert: The Master of Madrigals [CD]
Giaches de Wert (1535-1596) was one of the key composers of the late Italian madrigal. Born in the Low Countries, he worked mostly in Ferrara and Mantua, writing around 230 madrigals that moved from balanced Renaissance polyphony toward a dramatic, text-driven style built on poetry by Tasso and Guarini.
His vivid word-painting and expressive dissonance anticipate the early Baroque, and Monteverdi himself admired his music. Krijn Koetsveld and Le Nuove Musiche, praised for their complete Monteverdi madrigals cycle, turn to de Wert on this CD from Brilliant Classics.
Genre: Choral, Classical.
