Conrad Ansorge: String Quartets 1 & 2, Cello Sonata Op. 24 [CD]

Orpheus String Quartet – Conrad Ansorge: String Quartets 1 & 2, Cello Sonata Op. 24 [CD]

Conrad Ansorge was one of Liszt's last pupils, teacher of Selim Palmgren and Wilhelm Furtwängler, and a pianist once called a 'metaphysician of the piano', yet his own music is almost absent from the catalogue. This recording of his two string quartets and his Cello Sonata, Op. 24 effectively doubles his discography.

The Orpheus String Quartet reveal a musical orator rooted in late Beethoven: expansive recitatives, intricate counterpoint, intimate lyricism and striking sonorities. Single CD on cpo.

Genre: Chamber Music, Classical, Romantic.
