This one-off cover of Alan Vega’s “Bye Bye Bayou”
was recorded during the sessions for This Is
Happening, which took place at a rather storied
mansion nestled deep in Los Angeles’ Laurel Canyon.
The photographs that grace the sleeve were also shot
then.
It was originally released as a 12” for “Vinyl Saturday,”
whatever that was, in late 2009 and never repressed.
The original is a sort of demented, throbbing, blues
machine romp, and that devious spirit remains on
the LCD version, but it’s more in the pocket, a little
less unhinged. Basically, you can dance to it without
looking like a complete crazy person.
The sleeve is a four-color print on reverse board.
Lacquers were cut at 45RPM by Bob Weston. It has
been pressed at IRP in Bordentown, NJ.
RIP Alan Vega.
