Alexander Brincken: Orchestral Music Vol. 2 [2CD]

Royal Scottish National Orchestra – Alexander Brincken: Orchestral Music Vol. 2 [2CD]

Alexander Brincken, born in Leningrad in 1952 and based in Switzerland since 1992, writes in an expansive, unashamedly late-Romantic language. His grandiose Second Symphony (1984-89), scored for an orchestra of 114 players, echoes Bruckner, Mahler, Strauss and especially Franz Schmidt, all folded into a big-hearted style of dignity, lyricism and power.

Written as the Soviet system began to crumble and amid personal trauma, it unfolds a message of hope on an epic canvas. Two CDs from the Royal Scottish National Orchestra on Toccata Classics.

Genre: Classical, Contemporary Classical, Orchestral.
