Following releases by Hidefumi Toki and Kohsuke Mine, Japan's new jazz platform Days of Delight proudly presents the Days of Delight Quintet, a special band bringing together top musicians at the forefront of the scene. Spanning generations from their 20s to 50s, all members are accomplished bandleaders in their own right, weaving the "now" of straight-ahead jazz with overwhelming energy.

The band is led by bassist Nori Shiota, who, as the recording engineer for the label's previous two releases, performed the extraordinary feat of both playing bass and directing the ensemble while simultaneously recording the sessions. Joining him are the remarkable Mao Sone, Ken Ota, Hidekai Yoshioka, and Masahiko Osaka, each contributing their unique artistry and embracing approaches that shine specifically in this session.

The album features three brand-new compositions written by Shiota for this recording, two of his older pieces regularly performed live by this lineup, and three covers of classic 1960s tracks. Among the new compositions, two are inspired by the artist Taro Okamoto: TARO directly embodies the man himself, while Tower of the Sun pays tribute to his iconic Tower of the Sun, adding a distinctive color unique to this label.
